Wednesday afternoon New York time, blogs and respected news web sites the world over reported the identity of the escort who was a regular provider of sex to Elliot Spitzer, the now disgraced Governor of the state of New York.
Ashley Alexander Dupré, "Kristen" as she was known professionally, was revealed as a 22-year-old high school drop out and aspiring singer who had inadvertently set off a scandal that would rock American politics.
Soon she had the world's keyboards in an information frenzy.
Her myspace web page (where recordings of her R&B songs can be heard and where she talks of drug abuse and a rocky past) began receiving up to 5,000 hits a minute and media organizations from Al Jazeera, Reuters to CNN and Fox News were plastering her pictures fresh from that very same page across the world.
Then, by early Thursday US time, Ashley Dupré, originally from New Jersey, was busy making more friends. She was actively promoting herself online, using the other massive social network, Facebook and blogging on Tumblr.
Now, according to the New York Times, Ashley has been living on the 9th floor of her New York city apartment with little sleep since the scandal became public. She will be giving evidence against the prostitution ring "Emperors Club VIP".
“I just don’t want to be thought of as a monster,” she told the paper in a soft voice. “This has been a very difficult time. It is complicated.”

In the hours after Ms Dupre's identity was revealed by The Times and other outlets, a phenomenon was occurring.
A number of Facebook groups dedicated to her had begun to spring up, attracting hundreds and probably thousands of hits since then, they included; "Ashley Alexandra Dupre is the next American Idol", "Ashley Alexandra Dupre for World Peace" and "Ashley Dupre for President 08".
Old School pals get in on the act....
There is even one set up by her former school friends, "Ashley Alexandra Dupre (Ashley Youmans) was in my Class!".
"Do me a favor and dont try to cash out... thanks.," she tells her former classmates from Wall, New Jersey.
"Your the one who should be worrying about cashing out.. Save for the biggest check. I say you get a quarter million for an interview with Barbra Walters..," replys buddy Mike from nearby Jersey Shore.

Then there was the group, "Ashley Alexandra Dupre, On her side."
It was a page dedicated to Dupre not as a political villain, or pop cult hero but to recognise "a song writer/person who's side we can be on regardless of politics.."
At 3am EST US time Thurdsday, Ashley Dupre posted a link to a page that she had set up herself, on that very page, just minutes before.
She had also conveniently left a link to a music store where we can buy her song “What We Want” for 98cents a pop, ("Move ya Body" a steal at 48cents)
A review on that song "What We Want" is now seen on the web site of Canada's National Post.
On her new page she forecasts the coming public interest and paparazzi tsunami.
She asks, in a tone vanity and humor, “Wheres chris crocker (a teen who rose to net fame after posting a youtube clip defending Britney Spears) to defend you when you need him….. ”
She also writes as her tag line "Ashley Dupré wants the press away from the flatiron district.”
Seemingly inviting TMZ and companions to head on down to her Manhattan haunt somewhere in the Flatiron District, so she can presumably be hounded by them like a pack of hungry wolves.
She also advises us that “no, i wont call you, or respond to your message, or friend you”.

This appears to be Ashley Dupre's personal blog. For the benefit of the doubt, we can only assume that this is the real deal (but we put it at 40%). Especially given the fact that reports say she has not left her apartment for days, trying to keep a low profile and because it's fun, lets just asume it is real.
On top of that she has not blocked, nor taken down any of her photos from her Myspace page. A page that has been confirmed under her ownership by The New York Times, CNN and other outlets like Salon.
On her blog she fields interview requests from across the world. "Canada AM (our morning show) would like to invite you onto our show for a 3-4 minute live interview regarding the Spitzer Story," she's asked.
"It would be a 3-4 minute live interview at a nearby studio- if you’re in New York, we could do it at CNN or Reuters etc."
"Maybe another time," Ashely replies.
Then there is this, on her anticipation on being the centre of the media universe in the coming hours and her concerns about "Mr. Governor".
"I know that I’m the one who’s about to get called a prostitute on the cover of every newspaper in America, but I feel pretty badly for the Spitzers. Elliot—or Mr. Governor, as he liked me to call him—was more a shar-pei than a pitbull, and it might be a bit late for me to say this, but Silda (Spitzer's wife) certainly doesn’t deserve to be put through this."
On her future plans.....
"...Maybe strike while the iron is hot, take a cool several million to pose for playboy (Hef, call me!), and then go on to open the most successful brothel in the history of Nevada? Plus I can squeeze an record release in there somewhere, I’m sure."
And her secret dream....
" I want to be the first woman to be Secretary of the Treasury. I figure that my experience as an escort will leave me well prepared to whore myself out in the political system. Plus, bankers are even hotter than governors....Call me anytime, Alan," she writes with an accompanying picture of Alan Greenspan" (note the current US Treasury Secretary is Henry Paulson, Alan Greenspan was chairman of the Federal Reserve.)

Literally overnight this girl has become a phenomenon. Nearly 7 million hits on her myspace page, and 2 million downloads of her R&B songs, now selling at 98 cetns each (she will earn 70% of this). She also has had offers from Penthouse magazine.
"We would love to have her in the magazine," Diane Silberstein, president and publisher of Penthouse Magazine Group, told the Associated Press. "We would even consider offering her a cover. We think we could also be very helpful to her in her music career."
She may not want us to be her best Facebook friend, but she sure does want our attention. And now she has it. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you society's new Paris Hilton.
